Weblink to the field test manual; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7SsB1ouPdq7enV3SDV2S0hIRjg/view?usp=sharing Presenter: Kalan Anglos Combat sports strength and conditioning coach Master of Science in Kinesiology Candidate | University of Victoria Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) | NSCA Contact email: KalanAnglos at gmail dot com Reasons for fitness testing: The goal of the field fitness test is threefold: (1) to establish a valid and reliable fitness test that can be implemented for karate athletes, (2) to determine talent identification systems based on the fitness testing outcomes (i.e. create “athlete profiles”), and (3) to establish normative data on karate athletes. A \"fitness test\" evaluates an athlete’s physiological parameters. This is different from a \"skill assessment\" which tests psychological & physiological athlete reactions. A karate athlete skill test will be developed later. A related ‘performance test’ will evaluate more indepthly Karate BC Team athlete’s fitness capabilities twice a year; at the start and end of their competitive season from 2016. Therefore this field test is a good way for competitive karate athletes of any age to also monitor their fitness progress before doing the performance test as BC Team member. Test exercises: Flexibility – Standing Split Test Agility – “T-Test” (10m x 5m x 5m x 10m course) Anaerobic Power – Kneeling Med-ball Toss (males 8kg, females 6kg, youth 4kg) Anaerobic Power – Standing Long Jump Anaerobic Capacity – 300m Shuttle (10m course, time to complete) Aerobic Power/Capacity - Miller Test Run (20m course, laps completed in 5mins) Any data recorded by clubs does NOT need to be sent to Karate BC, as it is just for personal use by coaches and athletes. A karate fitness workout of 5 to 30 minutes can be created in any karate class using this test by increasing the number of times one or more of these exercises are performed.
