'Unissued / unused material.     Royal Marines snow training in Cairngorms Mountains, Scotland.     Slow pan left, showing peaks of Cairngorm range. A party of Marines, clad in snow suits, appear over a snow ridge and approach camera.  Nearer shot as party passes camera.  Advance party of snow clad marines pick their way in ice face using ice axes.  CU feet and ice axes.     The First stage in digging a snow hole shelter (underground igloo): trench is dug and then the bottom is widened to form a cavern under the ice.  Later stage in digging the snow hole: sloping entry made, slabs of snow are placed over as roof.   A marine disappears into a snow hole.  Another angle as marines go into snow hole. From inside snow hole, as Marines come in.  The Marines also build ice walls for protection against the weather. Various shots showing wall being built of snow blocks.  Showing completed snow wall around tent.     Party of Marines prepare to make a reconnaissance across the snow and they fit on snow shoes.  One man tests the other\'s shoes to check they are secure.  They set off across snow.  The men also receive training in skiing, a patrol is setting out on skis.  MS as they set off uphill.  Another shot of the ski party.     At the end of the day, the ski party return from patrol to their tent in the snow.  The skis and sticks are stacked up, throwing shadows across the snow.
